People usually say that the one good thing about moving is that you purge yourself of all that unneeded junk most homes eventually accumulate. That's the one thing I usually like about moving.
But if you are moving away from one house (or mainly our room in someone else's house) full of all your junk into an empty apartment, then you end up accumulated more stuff and re-buying stuff in the new place, and then saving more stuff (you know, you just don't want to throw away the zip lock baggies you bought). So then you move back home again, and you have to unpack all your stuff into your room which is already full of the stuff you didn't take (because you packed for a 2 month stay, so you took lots but left a whole lot more than you took). So unpacking is tough because you are trying to fit all your stuff into an already messy and full room.
I guess my problem is that I should have cleaned our room out a long time ago - before our first move last May. But I didn't. I guess when we permanently move out of my in laws house, then I will get serious about purging myself of junk.
For those of you late in the game, we have moved a total of 5 times since last May. First to Lompoc. Second to Portland. Third back to Fremont. Fourth to White City (southern Oregon). And fifth, back here to Fremont. So this 5th move is the 5th and final rotation for Aaron's 4th year externships for optometry school. (When we are in Fremont, he is doing in-house clinics at his school at Berkeley). We chose them like this, instead of putting more moving back to back, so he would be at Berkeley for his various board exams. I also realized that the move from Lompoc to Portland was pretty darn tough, because it was so much further, and we had no time for the move. (Worked on Friday and Monday, so we had to pack Friday night, drive to San Jose, drive Saturday to Fremont, spend the night in Redding, and drive then unpack Sunday). Apparently, other optometry schools like Pacific give their students a week to move. They only have 4 rotations through the year. Berkeley students don't get that week off, so they can fit 5, somewhat shorter rotations in. At least this time the drive was closer and we had an extra day to move our stuff.
Anyway, one last clinic rotation at Berkeley, which Aaron thinks will be challenging. Then he graduates in May! Oh, the thought of actually no longer being students, in constant dependence and ever-growing debt. It's an exciting thought. Or maybe, just relief. Having help from family is Wonderful. We have been so grateful, lucky, and blessed. But I think being self-reliant will feel even better. Let's just hope we don't remain unemployed for too long after graduation...we'll see how this economy affects his job outlook pretty soon. Boy, being grownup is... what's the word...

Did Adele and Dawna have another joyful reunion? We're excited for you guys that you're almost done moving around.
Yay! A light at the end of the tunnel. You guys are very diligent, a job will work out for you and you just might get your own place to live :)
I'm glad you're almost done with school - you'll love and miss being done. Can't wait to hear where you end up permanently.
Isn't it crazy to think you're almost done?? I think these grad school programs seem pretty long and daunting at the beginning, but go so fast at the very end. Have fun being back in Fremont! We're jealous of your spring weather there...
