Adele's 3rd birthday party

We started the party off with some crown and tiara decorating. The kids glued jewels and used sparkle puff paint pens to beautify their crowns. Then we moved on to the games. We had a game for each main princess.

1- the Belle game. We had to get Lumiere back to Mrs. Potts. The kids stood on a stool and had to drop candles into a little teapot. I enjoyed Adele leaning so close that she couldn't possibly miss. Then they got a Belle sticker to put on their crowns. (New crowns, because the decorated ones were wet).

2- the Snow White game. They passed around the "poison apple" (a large apple with a jingle inside it, and a happy face on it - an OLD baby toy). I played Snow White music. When the music stopped, whoever had the apple (like hot potato) had to fall asleep. When everyone was asleep, they were awoken with a "kiss." I gave them each a hershey kiss. Adele insisted on a real kiss before she would wake up. I tried to have her wake the other kids up, but she really wanted to kiss them. She didn't realize that a hershey kiss was those chocolates. Then they got their snow white sticker. Always a sticker after each game.

3 - the Ariel game. Pin the dress on Ariel. They were blindfolded but not spun. Like pin the tail on the donkey.

4 - the Jasmine game. There were carpets in a circle. I played "A Whole New World" while they walked in a circle. When the music stopped, whoever was on the designated "magic carpet" was sent to the cave of wonders (the playhouse outside with a large tiger blanket draped over it). After everyone was sent to the cave of wonders, they received their stickers.

5 - the Sleeping Beauty game. It was time to slay the dragon! Danielle helped me make a paper mache pinata. Adele helped me paint it and she and Dawna helped me stuff it. Adele also helped me paint the cardboard shields we made. And I got all the kids inflatable swords. So with their swords and shields, they slayed the dragon. It was so funny to watch the kids try to poke the dragon after they'd knocked it down. They got a little frustrated about not being able to destroy it (who could, w ith inflatable swords? Their shields made better weapons). So we showed them how to tear it open with their hands. Inside were wrapped sandwich baggies full of the Trader Joe's brand of Pirate's Booty (cheesy puffed corn, they call "popcorn). A healthier alternative to candy. Here is a video of the kids slaying the dragon.

I liked these games because 1) there was less waiting for turns. For age 2 and 3 year olds, I didn't think alot of waiting in line would be fun for them. And 2) there was never a "winner" so no one could feel bad. I am so UN competitive, especially in fun games. I wanted everyone to come away happy after each game. I think they did. And they all got "prizes" - crowns, stickers, shields, swords.

Then we had lunch, (for the kids, peanut butter jelly sandwiches in the shape of stars and hearts, cookie cutters worked great, cucumber circles and "poison" apple slices).

Then we opened presents, our friends are so generous!

Then the cake - we gathered round and started singing, and I brought out a great big pumpkin. Then she looked concerned, because I said "what happened to your cinderella cake?! This isn't a cake, it's a pumpkin!" So I gave all the kids wands (that flash when you hit a button). We all chanted "bippity boppity boop!" Which is what Cinderella's fairy godmother says. Then out comes Aaron with the lighted Cinderella cake! She was mesmerized by it. Here is a video of Adele and her cake.

Very Creative Emily. It looks like all the kids had fun. I loved your "plug" for healthy birthday treats. Very funny.

Well, being so close to Halloween, Adele has already been binging on candy from the 2 trunk or treats she's been to. We haven't even had REAL Halloween yet, so I decided to nix the candy at her party (except for the hershey kisses).

Wow, what creative ideas! I love how all the games tied into the princess theme. Plus your idea for the "magical" cake transformation. Happy birthday Adele!

You sure know how to throw a birthday party. I was laughing so hard watching all those toddlers trying to attack the dragon. That was so great. I wish I could have been there. Has Adele asked why Halloween and her birthday keep going and going?
