Traffic Court

My court date was for today at 8:30 am. So I woke a sleeping baby and dragged my kids to the county court. It's always fun to drive around downtown and look for public parking, walk several blocks, and forget to remove your mini leatherman from your keychain. I didn't want to walk all the way back to the car to return the leatherman (I'd left the house at 7:30 and it was already 8:10) - so I had to throw it away at security.

I got in line for traffic court cashier windows. The line grew exponentially long as I stood there. I stood in line until 9 am, and the line was 10 times longer, and I had still only moved 10 feet. Finally, a clerk walked by, shouting "this is for if you want to go to trial!" Since she started talking FIRST to the people at the END of the line, I thought she meant the line itself. Then people were just mobbing her, and I realized she meant that the original line was now for people who were paying tickets, and she was starting a new mob/line for those who wanted to go to trial. Nice of her to keep things organized. I jumped out of line and in front of the new mob, because I certainly wasn't going to wait behind all the people who were behind me in line. (Luckily she had stopped right in front of me).

She said there would be NO trials today, because the police officers weren't there, and they couldn't have trials without the police officers. That sounds like a really raw deal, to wait in line all that time, and not have a trial because of the cops. So we had to fill out a form if we wanted to REschedule our trial date. LOVELY.

I got back to the car two hours after I'd left the house, and nursed starving Samuel in the parking garage. What a complete waste of time. Loss of my leatherman.

(I can't make the new trial date because it will not be scheduled for, she said, at least 30 days, more like 45 days. We'll have moved by then. She said I could write a letter to the judge. But I have to have the letter notarized, so I have to figure out where to find one and how much that will cost. )

crappy deal!! Most banks offer notary services and it's free if you have an account there. Hope that helps!! Stupid Orean Traffic laws

Lame! A lot of office admins can notarize too if you know any ...

Man! What a pain! Your bank should be able to notarize as well. It should be free, provided you have an account there. Good luck!

What a PAIN. I agree with Andrew - go to your bank and they should do it for free. We had to get a few things notarized w/ buying our house and it was annoying, but not a bit deal.

I am SO sorry you went through all of that for nothing...

What a huge hassle! Unfortunately sounds pretty typical of what I've come to expect from all government agencies. Isn't Larry a notary?

Just my luck to have been living with a notary (yes, Larry, my father-in law for those who don't know). But it only works for California. Luckily, I checked with my bank and they will do it for free.
